President Lynn Holec opened the virtual meeting at 6:00 pm. She started the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Holec announced birthdays and anniversaries for the week.
Meeting visitors introduced themselves.
President Holec held a Club Assembly in lieu of a speaker for her last meeting as Club President. The following members provided updates:
- Mary Goldsmith gave an update on the Community Service Grants Committee. She reported that the committee gave out $126,000 this year. 22 members of the grant review team reviewed 61 applications.
- Marilyn Nevy Cruz talked about the Community Engagement Committee, our work with the Rotaract and Interact clubs, the youth exchange program, and her leadership in the Public Image Committee.
- Monica Smith spoke about the Membership Committee. This year we brought on 15 new members; due to attrition, we’re up a net of 3 members this year.
- Nancy Riker spoke about Rotary International Foundation fundraising.
- David Klaus talked about the Embassy Relations Committee. We had 4 ambassador speakers this year, and we awarded honorary memberships to them. He also provided a Club Foundation fund drive overview. We raised a little over $32,000; 94% of our club members gave to the campaign.
- Steve Liston talked about the Program Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. This Rotary year we had 31 in-person speakers and 11 virtual speakers.
- May O’Brien gave an International Service Committee report.
President Holec gave out awards. She presented certificates of achievement to:
- Nicole Butler for the beautiful website;
- Monica Smith for her untiring membership work;
- Changamire for organizing 3 youth conferences for the World Press Photo exhibit;
- David Klaus for his work as chair of the Embassy Relations Committee and the fact that he was critical in creating our first annual ambassadors reception;
President Holec then presented certifications of appreciation to:
- Mary Goldsmith for her work on the community service grants and holiday party;
- May O’Brien and Mimi Kanda for their work on the International Service Committee;
- Thomas Napier and Leopold Wildenauer for their work organizing the Grate Patrol volunteers;
- Whitney Doll for writing the meeting in review every week;
- Russ Savage for scheduling member moments and new member talks;
- Stu and Balraj Gupta for manning the visitor table; and,
- Darren Crew for his work on the holiday party.
District awards for Service Above Self from the District Governor for our Walter Reed Bingo program went to Sheldon Williams, Nancy Riker, Monica Smith, Darren Crew, Casey Sacks, and 5 non-Rotarians that have helped with the program.
The Rotarian of the Year Award went to Steve Liston and Marilyn Nevy Cruz.
President Lynn Holec adjourned the meeting a few minutes after 7:00 pm.
