- Marilyn Nevy Cruz spoke about the upcoming career fair and asked for additional volunteers to present to students.
- President Elect Nancy Riker spoke about the Committee Services Grant Committee and asked for additional volunteers to review the grants.
Steve Liston introduced this week’s guest speaker, Paul Frank, Ph.D., Executive Director of SIL LEAD, Inc., a non-profit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to serving minority language communities. Dr. Frank spoke about indigenous languages in the 21st century.
Dr. Frank has a Ph.D. in linguistics and more than 35 years of experience in applied linguistic research and the management of development programs in minority language communities. He has served as an international officer of SIL International, overseeing a multi-million dollar annual budget. He has represented SIL International in its interactions with the news media, the international NGO community, and the United States and foreign governments. He was co-founder of SIL LEAD and has led the organization from its beginning in 2011 to a thriving organization that is participating or has participated in USAID education projects in Afghanistan, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Liberia, Nepal, Philippines, Senegal, and Uganda. Dr. Frank also facilitates the adoption of appropriate technology for producing local language books and is a Master Trainer for Bloom software.
